The Mission:
To be a national grassroots network of Christian committed to serving Jesus Christ by training equipping, educating youth, families, and churches with the abstinence message, as well as caring for orphan victims of the AIDS pandemic by assisting them with daily necessities and one-on-one mentoring. To see the children fulfill God’s purpose for their lives by realizing that God loves them. The Vision:
Although the problem is great, God is greater still. It is the intention of STEP Cameroon to begin ministry through the schools of Cameroon. However, as word spreads of this work, it is anticipated that other cities and countries will desire this, as well. Therefore, this effort could be replicated all over the continent. As God opens doors and warms hearts to the truth, STEP Cameroon is open and willing. The Man:
This massive work has been entrusted to the willing and capable hands of Daniel Ngwanou whom God called out of the world of business as a company director in February, 1998, when the Lord spoke to him through I Peter 5:2, “Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, serving as overseers—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.” Daniel understood this word to be God’s personal invitation for him to leave behind the secular world and enter the world of ministry and faith. He saw this as a torch of light with an invitation to walk into the darkness.
Now Daniel’s daily “Yes, Lord, I will go” has led him quickly through much red tape into a position of trust in the schools, where he and his staff bring the message of Christ and abstinence.
NOTRE MESSAGE:
The Problem:
The most prevalent problem is the pandemic of AIDS which is ravaging the entire continent of Africa. Of the 42 million infected worldwide, 29.4 million live in Africa, (70% of the world’s people living with AIDS).
Three million young people in central Africa are orphaned due to AIDS. In Cameroon, 25 people are contaminated every hour. Half of all Cameroonians infected are between 15 and 25 years old. The Solution:
The solution to this pandemic lies within the boundaries set by the Lord in His Word. Abstinence until marriage is the only effective way to stop this problem. The youth must be exposed to the abstinence message coupled with what God has to say about it. Youth who are told the whole truth can make healthier decisions for their own lives. Daniel and his staff carry this message into three schools, reaching 7,000 children.
